1st scenario: Number of cabbages = y² + 9
2nd scenario: Number of cabbages = (y+1)^2 – 12

y² + 9 = (y + 1)² – 12
y² + 9 = y² + 2y + 1 – 12
9 = 2y -11
20 = 2y
y = 10

Substituting, (y = 10) in (y² + 9) gives us:
10² + 9 = 100 + 9 = 109
