Australia is not plotted on the first graph. This means that they must have won less gold medal than Germany. Since we need the minimum silver medals, we must assume that Australia won 1 less gold medal than Germany. So Australia won = 16 – 1 = 15 gold medals.

g + s + b = 46

If a gold media equates to 3, silver medal equates to 2 and one bronze medal equates to 1

3g + 2s + 1b = 89

Using simultaneous equations, wer get:

3g + 2s + 1b = 89
g + s + b = 46

2g + s = 43

Since number of gold medals = 15, we get:

2 (15) + s = 43
s = 13
