Cost of a spruggle on the second day: 75% of 12 = £9
Let no. of spruggles sold on day 1 = ‘S’
So no. of spruggles sold on day 2 = 2S
Money obtained on day 1 = S x 12 = 12S
Money obtained on day 2 = 2S x 9 = 18S

We know he obtained £342 more on second day. 
12S + 342 = 18S
342 = 6S
S = 57

On the first day he sold 57 spruggles and on the second day he sold 2S = 57 x 2 = 114 spruggles 
In total, he sold 114 + 57 = 171 Spruggles
